A winter storm watch will be in effect until 7 p.m. Wednesday for Jefferson and Lewis counties.

Mitchell added with the temperature expected to hover around 20 degrees, wind chills throughout the day and evening will make it feel like it's below zero. The Finger Lakes region, including the Syracuse area will experience the lake snow near and especially after midnight as winds shift from west this evening to northwest as a trough of low pressure pushes through. About 6-8 inches of snow is expected to accumulate during this time, accompanied by wind gusts of 20 to 35 miles per hour.

Drivers should be prepared for reduced visibilities at times, the NWS said: "Roads will become snow-covered and hazardous". More is expected with lake enhancement in the Snowbelt. On the back side of the low, lake effect snow will set up, giving us additional snow for Wednesday and into Thursday.

The coldest air of the season will arrive after Tuesday's storm. Temperatures start chilly in the 20s Saturday and rise closer to, if not a bit above normal by the end of the weekend.
