Conte refuses to discuss Chelsea interest in 'really good player' Van Dijk

Virgil van Dijk: Man Utd join Liverpool, Man City and Barcelona in January hunt - report

Van Dijk joined the Hoops from Dutch club Groningen during the summer of 2013 and eventually left the club to join Southampton two seasons later for a fee of £13 million.

Liverpool will finally snap up Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk, but will have to wait until the end of the season to get their man, according to Craig Burley.

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte describes Virgil van Dijk as a "really good player" amid speculation that his side are interested in a January move for the Southampton man.

Pellegrino took the shock decision to drop Van Dijk against Chelsea, though he insisted the central defender was rested.

City manager Pep Guardiola is also interested in Van Dijk as he wants to strengthen his defence, while Arsenal and Chelsea are also reported to be keeping tabs on the Netherlands worldwide.

Speaking after Saints' 1-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge, Pellegrino admitted Van Dijk could be on his way in next month's window.

"You never know what can happen in the future", he said.

'I can have my opinion and I have to give that to the technical director, to the chairman.

"I can't control the market".

The Argentine - who accused unnamed players of lacking "commitment" after the 4-1 midweek loss to Leicester - was unable to confirm whether Van Dijk will remain at the club through the January transfer window.

'After, the board can decide all together which is the best for the team'. He had a bad (knee) injury, but I think he recovered very well.

Now, it seems that Southampton manager Mauricio Pellegrino will not rule out a departure for the player, who has also attracted the interest of Pep Guardiola, and thinks that while he wants to keep his best players, sometimes it's not possible.
