Donald Trump defends 'stable genius' tweets and brands book author 'a fraud'

Former White House Chief Strategist and Breitbart CEO Steve Bannon apologized exclusively via Axios for statements made in Michael Wolff's book Fire and Fury regarding the president, the Trump family, and his advisers. Bannon said his support for Trump and his agenda was "unwavering".

"I regret that my delay in responding to the inaccurate reporting regarding Don Jr. has diverted attention from the president's historical accomplishments in the first year of his presidency", Bannon concluded.

Trump has threatened a lawsuit against Wolff, and the White House has taken major issue with the accuracy of many of Wolff's assertions, including numerous misidentifications and other components in the book that could have been fact-checked.

Bannon was quoted eviscerating President Donald Trump, his son Donald Trump Jr., his daughter, Ivanka Trump, and his son-in-law Jared Kushner.

Its author told NBC's Meet the Press he spoke with the president directly several times, but said that Mr Trump might not have been aware they were interviews.

"I went from VERY successful businessman, to top T.V. Star to President of the United States (on my first try)".

Trump, answering questions from reporters at Camp David later, called Wolff a "fraud" and said the book is "a complete work of fiction".

Trump, asked about a New York Times report that his aides had pressured Attorney General Jeff Sessions not to rescue himself from the Russian Federation investigation, said: "Everything I've done has been 100 percent proper".

Nikki Haley, the US ambassador to the United Nations, said that she is at the White House once a week, and "no one questions the stability of the president".

Mr Miller attacked Michael Wolff as "a garbage author of a garbage book".

Trump tweeted Friday that he gave "Zero access to White House (actually turned him down many times) for author of phony book!"

Donald Trump began his Saturday morning by advising the world he is a "very stable genius" and calling his two greatest assets "mental stability and being, like, really smart".

Chatter about Trump's mental fitness for office has intensified in recent months on cable news shows and among Democrats in Congress. "It's in his imagination", Trump said Saturday.

He added that his story "seems to present this presidency in such a way that it says he can't do his job".

Doctors, however, said Alzheimer's was not to blame, noting the disease was diagnosed years after he left office.

Donald Trump too has continued to fight back against the book.
