Le'Veon Bell unsure about Steelers future

ESPN: Le'Veon Bell would consider sitting out or retiring if the Pittsburgh Steelers tag him again

"I hope it doesn't come to that", he said, "but I would definitely consider it".

Bell reportedly turned down a long-term contract past year because he didn't feel the Steelers valued him. He had 321 carries for 1,291 yards and 85 receptions for 655 yards in the regular season, and the Steelers are preparing to play the Jaguars in an AFC Divisional Round playoff game Sunday at Heinz Field.

Bell also has 3122 catches for 2,660 yards and seven receiving touchdowns.

That term kept coming up in the ESPN story: value. "I'm not going out here getting the ball 400 times if I'm not getting what I feel I'm valued at".

"I'm trying to win a super bowl", Bell said.

Bell's threat to retire is probably a bluff, but that doesn't mean he has no right to be exasperated at playing another season under the franchise tag (which pays a player no less than the average of the top five salaries at his position).

Bison make it six titles, edging James Madison to regain FCS championship
But cornerback Marquise Bridges picked off Schorr at the 3-yard line and NDSU still had the lead. For the second time in the half, a JMU miscue directly propagated a touchdown for the Bison.

National Football League teams generally consider the time value of draft picks when making trades, so a 2019 third-round pick (at the end of the round, no less) would be worth about a late second-rounder or early third-rounder this year.

The team did have a long-term offer on the table until July 18, the deadline for franchise player designees to avoid playing this season under the tag by inking a different deal.

Well, after a career full of highlight reels and plenty of talent left in the tank, Bell is looking for money.

The Steelers rode Le'Veon Bell hard in the team's first two playoffs games last season, giving him the ball 59 times in the victories over the Miami Dolphins and Kansas City Chiefs. I'm a guy they can kind of look at.

Bell is certainly one of the best running backs, and best players, in the NFL. If he gets tagged and doesn't get to test free agency, then things might get sticky. But that's exactly what they have following Le'Veon Bell's comments Thursday about his future with the team.

With a strong chance at Super Bowl number seven, Pittsburgh's only focus is the game ahead and their road to a ring.
