President Donald Trump is really playing the role of moderator as Congress attempts to reach a deal on legislation that would shield hundreds of thousands of young immigrants from deportation, moderate Democratic Sen.

Then on Thursday, a bipartisan group of senators presented the president with an agreement on new legislation for immigrants brought to the US illegally as children. "I take a little bit of offense to the suggestion that the president is racist", she said Sunday.

Marielena Hincapié, executive director of the National Immigration Law Center, warned on Saturday that the window for renewal applications may be a "short" one. "Use this weekend to get well-informed re requirements & prepare your renewal #DACA application". Democrats have been demanding protections for DACA recipients in exchange for border security funding that could include money for Trump's promised border wall. It has distracted from the policy discussion of not only DACA, but of broader issues like immigration based on merit, which the president says he favors over a policy of family reunification, what he calls "chain immigration".

Trump, who railed against the judicial system after the judge's decision, went after congressional Democrats on Sunday.

"DACA is probably dead because the Democrats don't really want it, they just want to talk and take desperately needed money away from our Military", the 45th POTUS declared.

US President Donald Trump on Sunday pushed for a merit-based immigration system, saying he wants only those people who can help America become "strong and great again". "No more Lotteries! #AMERICA FIRST", he said.

Trump's tweet drew a response from Sen.

Choi said that the government is ramping up monitoring efforts, and is poised to hold accountable banks for their duty to prevent money laundering.

The president sought to shift from the defensive by portraying Democrats as not truly interested in an immigration deal.

"The so-called bipartisan DACA deal presented yesterday to myself and a group of Republican Senators and Congressmen was a big step backwards".

Further roiling the talks are comments by Trump during an Oval Office meeting in which he questioned the need to admit more Haitians to the US, along with Africans from "shithole" countries, according to people briefed on the conversation but not authorized to describe it publicly.

Durbin, the only Democrat at the meeting, confirmed the comments.

But other Republicans, pained by the turn of events, spoke out against the president as debate over the slur spilled into Sunday television talk shows.

A confidant of Trump's told The Associated Press that the president spent Thursday evening calling friends and outside advisers to judge their reaction on his inflammatory remarks.

Supporters of DACA rejoiced and celebrated the ruling in the streets of San Francisco on the federal court's decision at the time. "We are getting to work as soon as possible Monday morning".
