Simona Halep made it through to the fourth round after beating American Lauren Davis

Unseeded American Lauren Davis won the opening set in her third-round match against Simona Halep before the Romanian pulled out a 4-6, 6-4, 15-13 win.

Davis' performance in the final set was particularly impressive, given she lost a toenail chasing down a shot from Halep, who served for the match at 5-4, 6-5 and 8-7 before eventually sealing her spot in the fourth round.

Kerber's next match is against Hsieh Su-wei, who followed up her win over Wimbledon champion Garbine Muguruza with a 6-2, 7-5 win against No. 26 Agnieszka Radwanska to return to the fourth round at Melbourne Park for the first time in a decade.

"It was the only match that I have played like this, it was very tough and I gave everything I had".

"I never played a third set so long".

The WTA's top-ranked player passed all tests with flying colors, cruising to a 6-2, 6-2 win over Eugenie Bouchard at Margaret Court Arena in Melbourne.

"I was sweating more watching that match than I was with my match", said a smiling Osaka.

"I just feel that my muscles are gone", she added. "I just think the double-hander is easier".

"She's an incredible player".

Jind gangrape-murder case: Suspect class 12 boy, found dead
Two special investigation teams (SITs) under DSP-rank officers have been constituted to probe the incident, the Jind police said. The Congress leaders expressed deep concern over the recent incidents of rape-and-murder and "rising crime graph" in the state.

His serve was effectively untouchable for most of the match, with Gasquet unable to earn a break point until late in the third set when the Frenchman was able to get back level at 4-4.

The Thornhill, Ont., resident, who is coming off an injury-filled season, had reached at least the quarterfinals in Melbourne Park the last three years. The 3-hours, 45-minute match included 11 service breaks and two medical timeouts. "It was nice to win this match".

Davis, despite knowing she had already lost the point, still ran up to the ball and swung her racquet at it, missing the oncoming ballboy's face by mere centimetres.

Halep's gained some revenge from the last - and only - time the pair met in a Grand Slam tournament. She has reached two finals in a Grand Slam event - at the 2014 and 2017 French Open - and she has never advanced past the quarterfinals of the Australian Open.

Today, despite Bogdan played well above her ranking, the 2015 Australian Open semifinal fired off six aces and won 78% of points behind her powerful first serve.

It equaled the longest women's singles match at the Australian Open in terms of games played. She plays No.8 Caroline Garcia who reached her first fourth round at Australian Open as she completed a 6-3 5-7 6-2 win over Aliaksandra Sasnovich, who surrendered to a fourth top 10 defeat in five meetings. She had lost their only previous meeting, nearly five years ago, at Indian Wells 6-2, 6-0, and she had already won two three-setters this week, while Halep had looked comfortable without dropping a set.

Sixth-seeded Karolina Pliskova beat No. 29 Lucie Safarova 7-6 (6), 7-5.

Women's top seed Simona Halep barely survived a grueling third-round matchup at the Australian Open on Friday.
