During his tenure, Rawat will oversee eight Assembly elections beginning with Tripura, Nagaland and Meghalaya in February, followed by Karnataka in April-May and finally Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and Mizoram later this year. Apart from this, Rawat has also served as Collector of Narsinghpur from 1983-86 and Indore (Madhya Pradesh) from 1986-88.

His tenure will end in December this year and Arora, the senior most commissioner after the CEC, is expected to take over as the head of the poll panel as per convention. Three Commissioners have heard the case - (Nasim) Zaidi, (AK) Joti and myself.
