Earlier this afternoon, it was announced that one of the best pitching prospects in the MLB, Forrest Whitley, had been suspended 50 games without pay for violating the minor-league drug program. He finished the year with Double-A Corpus Christi Hooks and struck out 11 batters in six innings while allowing no runs in his debut against the Tulsa Drillers.

Whitley is the third Astros' prospect, along with Dean Deetz and Jonathan Singleton, to be suspended for violations of the minor-league drug prevention program this offseason. "But we're still hopeful and optimistic that Forrest is going to be a big part of our future".

The 6-foot-7 hard-throwing starter advanced from low-Class A to Double-A last season, going a combined 5-4 with a 2.83 ERA and 143 strikeouts in 92 1/3 innings with three minor league teams.

Freezing rain warning for SD&G
A blanket of freezing rain is expected to hit SD&G Sunday afternoon and continue into Sunday night. The snow should end by Sunday evening, EC claims.

MiLB.com reported that Whitley was expected to start the season with Corpus Christi but likely will not report until May.

Luhnow wouldn't provide details on what led to the suspension, but he did say Whitley was remorseful and he believes he will learn from his mistake. "When you're a high school player and you get drafted and you're a top prospect there's a lot of pressure that goes along with that role".
