The shooter, Stephen Craig Paddock, reportedly opened fire on the crowd from his hotel room, using a cache of semi-automatic rifles that were outfitted with bump stocks.

Trump has been in Florida for the past few days, spending time visiting victims and the families of the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland. Trump campaigned in 2016 on a commitment to protecting the Second Amendment. "We must do more to protect our children", Trump said during the announcement at the White House.

"Although the Obama Administration repeatedly concluded that particular bump stock type devices were lawful to purchase and possess, I sought further clarification of the law restricting fully automatic machine guns", Trump said in the document. The shooter in the Las Vegas massacre used bump stocks to increase the number of rounds he fired into the crowd. The sentiment was echoed by the president on Tuesday in a post on his Twitter account.

Trump generally favours a Senate bill on background checks, she said, but she said she had not spoken with him about the House version of the bill, which included concealed carry reciprocity measures.

Meanwhile, survivors of the Parkland high school shooting launched a campaign under the tag #NeverAgain, urging the USA government to ensure the saftey of the nation's schools.

In light of the school shooting in Parkland, Florida, the White House is hosting teachers and students to talk about school safety. She had introduced a bill to ban bump stocks as well as similar devices previous year.

Longtime trump lawyer Michael Cohen admitted earlier this week that he paid Daniels $130,000 just before Election Day in 2016. The company told the magazine it did not print it because it did not find McDougal's story to be credible.

A bill to tighten the national criminal background check system for gun buyers, allowing records from every state to be shared, has already been given the support of the White House.

The president also called for better physical protection of schools, and for better coordination between federal and state law enforcement in order to take "swift action" when there are warning signs.

"What we need to do is take a real good hard realistic look at what we do need to do", he said.

Since then, DOJ and ATF officials have said publicly and privately that banning bump stocks could not be achieved unilaterally.

On Twitter, Trump hit out at Democrats over their alleged failure to pass gun control legislation.

The White House said he had spoken about a bipartisan bill created to strengthen the Federal Bureau of Investigation database of prohibited gun buyers. Other Florida high school students also walked out in solidarity with the Parkland students on Tuesday to call for gun reforms.
