McArthur charged with sixth case of first-degree murder

Det. -Sgt. Hank Idsinga will be holding a news conference at police headquarters at 10:45 a.m.

Navaratnam, 40, went missing in September, 2010, and was the focus of a police investigation called Project Houston.

Three of the six sets of remains have now been identified using fingerprint analysis and dental records, Idsinga said, adding other confirmed victims are 49-year-old Andrew Kinsman and 50-year-old Soroush Mahmudi.

Police have said they found the dismembered remains of six people in large planters at the home of one of McArthur's clients in Leaside.

"There's even some ... occurrences where there's been a sudden death that we're looking at", he said.

McArthur, 66, was initially charged on January 18 with the first-degree murders of Kinsman and Selim Esen, two men who disappeared from the Village between April and July 2017.

Police have interviewed some of McArthur's past known associates, but Idsinga said there is no reason to believe that the investigation now involves a hunt for other suspects.

His remains were among those found earlier this month by police on a property linked to Mr McArthur. He did announce that the force would review its practices in missing persons investigations.

They later added three more first degree murder charges in the deaths of Majeed Kayhan, Mahmudi and Dean Lisowick. He said he expects that in warmer weather, they will return to the property at 53 Mallory Crescent to look for further remains on or in the thawed ground.

May 2016 - July 2017 - Police believe Dean Lisowick, 43 or 44, of no fixed address, was killed by McArthur during this time span.

Police are also looking at two other properties in the city, and have reached out to police forces overseas, where McArthur may have travelled, for help.

"It brings them some peace and some closure", he said.

He's scheduled to make his next appearance on February 28.
