Germany is warning its citizens in Canada to exercise "a high degree of empathy", after the men's hockey team beat Canada to advance to the gold-medal final at the 2018 Winter Olympics in South Korea, a Globalnews report has said.

OAR's victory marks the first time in more than two decades that a men's Olympic team featuring Russian players has captured gold, with Russian players previously helping the Unified Team finish atop the podium at the 1992 Albertville Olympics.

Both teams scored twice in a back-and-forth third period with Nikita Gusev knotting the game with a short-handed goal with less than a minute to go to force the overtime period.

Kaprizov, who is only 20 years old, has for its part made an accomplice of three nets of the olympic Athletes of Russian Federation. Kirill Kaprizov (OAR): Scored the golden goal on an OAR power play to cap four-point night. But the whole squad along with fans in attendance sang the Russian national anthem, drowning out the Olympic Hymn, despite the IOC banning the country's athletes from any public activities associated with the national flag, anthem, and other symbols at the Olympics in PyeongChang.

According to Yahoo Sports, as the Winter Olympics [VIDEO] were coming to a close, the Olympic Athletes from #Russia defeated #Germany 4-3, securing the gold medal.

The team's assistant captain Ilya Kovalchuk said the players had discussed beforehand whether to sing the anthem if they were to win, and they agreed they would. Nikita Gusev, who was selected in the 2012 National Hockey League draft but never saw his debut, led the Russians in points going into the Gold Medal game.

"When you play for your country and I win this medal, this special time it's more important", Pavel Datsyuk said. That was my dream for when I was five years old, when I started playing.

Hours earlier the International Olympic Committee voted unanimously to keep the country's ban for mass doping, which means that Russian athletes will not be able to march behind their flag at the Olympics closing ceremony later Sunday.

That means the Russians will again march under the "Olympic Athletes from Russia" name and the Olympic flag. "Now I have no dream".

Gusev also had two goals and two assists.

The win gives OAR their second gold of the Pyeongchang Games and 17th medal overall.

"It was the craziest game ever", Kovalchuk said.

Gusev netted a steep-angle shot with 6:39 remaining in regulation time for a 2-1 lead, only for Germany's Dominik Kahun to equalise 10 seconds later. In the second, Germany continued to hold steady and refused to allow many - or any, really - quality chances against in the opening half of the frame, and holding OAR off the board in the early going paid incredible dividends as the midpoint of the period approached.

The skies and lows of the 2018 slam dunk contest
The big game on Sunday is always fun and entertaining, but it is undoubtedly outshone by the festivities on Saturday night. Donovan Mitchell edged Nance Jr.in the Verizon Slam Dunk Contest Saturday night, 98-96.
