Formula One 2018: Pre-Season Testing Recap - Day 2

Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas takes to the Barcelona track as F1 returns

Although early test runs aren't the be all and end all, Red Bull's new auto looks to be pretty fast.

Bottas ultimately accumulated 94 laps over the course of the day, posting the second fastest time behind Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel.

After topping the timesheets on Monday, Red Bull completed just three laps in the morning due to a fuel leak on Max Verstappen's auto.

'Every driver has a weakness, but rather than focus too much on Lewis I am going to spend my energy and focus on myself and my performance on track, ' Bottas added.

Hamilton is understood to still be at the circuit, and the team claim he was willing to go along with their decision to give Bottas an entire day behind the wheel.

"It was very cold on track today", said Bottas.

American team Haas F1 used Magnussen for the day, and the Dane had a disgusting time, almost striking the barriers at turn 4, and conducting limited mileage that he could not change until the team made limited modifications to the auto.

Valtteri Bottas insists he won't try to unsettle Lewis Hamilton in order to get the better of his teammate in the same manner that Nico Rosberg did.

Noren shoots 66, shares lead at The Honda Classic
He acknowledged being exhausted coming off the West Coast Swing, but posted his lowest career round at PGA National on Thursday . Instead, the 42-year-old made birdie at the 4th and was narrowly denied a move back under par on his penultimate hole.

Asked if McLaren could make it a four-team fight, Bottas replied: "As a team we don't underestimate any team or driver".

At least this time we know it's not Honda's fault!

Vandoorne did only 37 laps after a problem with the exhaust caused overheating.

Vettel, like Hamilton a four times champion, lapped with a best time of one minute 19.673 seconds on soft tyres and also completed the most laps (98) despite flurries of snow later in the day.

McLaren are playing catch-up after a wheel nut failure wrote off Fernando Alonso's opening morning in Barcelona.

"I didn't really get the chance to push in the auto and go up to top speeds as the conditions were so bad".

Even with temperatures at their highest, Vettel and Sauber rookie Charles Leclerc spun off the track and into the gravel. Not ideal considering they hardly got a massive amount of laps in yesterday, but it's far from time to panic at this stage.

With temperatures barely above zero there was very little action in the first three hours, a short soft-tyre run from Carlos Sainz Jr's Renault offering the only representative lap time of 1m25.059s. "I hope that the weather is going to get better soon and I'm looking forward to tomorrow and Thursday".
