"Sierra Leone has come a long way from its civil war and what is required is the collective efforts by the citizens, the government, security agencies, the judiciary, civil society and the media to take the country to the next level", declared the former Interim President of Liberia.

Sierra Leoneans will head to the polls today to vote for a successor to Ernest Bai Koroma, who is bowing out after having served two terms.

The SLPP has retained the same candidate, Julius Maada Bio, who lost to Koroma in 2012.

Other leading candidates in the poll include Dr Kandeh Yumkella of the National Grand Coalition (NGC) and former Vice President Samuel Sam-Sumana of the Coalition for Change (C4C).

"The Sierra Leone Bar Association however notes that the legal provisions cited can not be a basis and/or justification for the said Public Notice, in particular Section 18 (3) of the Constitution of Sierra Leone Act No. 6 of 1991 and Section 32 of the Police Act of 1964 which has been repealed".

The APC broadly relies on the Temne and Limba people in its northern strongholds, while the SLPP is more popular in the south with the Mende ethnic group.
