Dairy Queen will be giving away free small vanilla cones on March 20

On March 20, DQ locations around the country, including right here in Acadiana, will be handing out one free small vanilla cone to customers. There are more than 4,400 USA locations.

It may not feel like spring just yet, but that doesn't mean you can't celebrate it. Dairy Queen said it raised $300,000 for the charity on the same day previous year. Free cones will be available during regular business hours all day long.

Dairy Queen will also use the annual Free Cone Day to collect money for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals a charity that, according to the Minnesota-based restaurant chain, raises funds and awareness for 170 hospitals that provide 32 million treatments each year to children across both the US and Canada. Most stores are open noon to 9 p.m.

"We strive to not only serve our guests fresh, delicious Italian Ice, but happiness too", said Linda Chadwick, Rita's president and CEO, in a statement. There is a one per person limit.
