Joseph diGenova not joining Trump's legal team

Trump dismisses as 'fake news' reports of legal team trouble

Earlier on Sunday, Mr. Trump took to Twitter from his Florida resort to insist that he faced no problems finding lawyers to represent him in the Russian Federation investigation.

Attorney John Dowd quit Trump's legal team on Thursday, days after what appeared to bethe hiring of Joseph DiGenova, a cable news commentator and former United States attorney who has claimed that special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 USA election is an attempt to frame the president, carried out by the FBI and the Department of Justice.

Hicks's lawyer, Robert Trout, has denied Corallo's assertion, and White House aides told The Times that Corallo's testimony was a factor as Trump decided whether to go ahead with hiring diGenova and Toensing. He said the conflicts would not prevent them from assisting Trump "on other legal matters".

He noted that "many lawyers and top law firms want to represent me in the Russian Federation case".

US President Donald Trump wanted Joseph diGenova on his team even though he did not know him, officials say.

Major firms such as Williams & Connolly and Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher turned him down in the past year, citing conflicts, people familiar with the matter have told Reuters.

Trump is having no problems finding new representation after John Dowd - the president's lead lawyer in the Mueller probe - resigned Thursday, the president said in a series of early morning tweets Sunday.

Former U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia Joe diGenova and his attorney wife, Victoria Toensing, will not be coming aboard, despite an announcement last week to that effect, according to the president's personal lawyer, Jay Sekulow.

Hundreds of Thousands March for tighter gun control
The street protests and growing congressional attention mean gun control could loom large in the November midterm elections. Although the temperature was only two degrees on the day, it still could not stop people from participating in the rally.

Dowd's resignation itself came less than two weeks after Trump named him in a tweet and claimed "I am VERY happy with my lawyers".

Last weekend, Dowd issued a statement calling for an end to Mueller's investigation.

The moves on Trump's legal team parallel the shakeup roiling the top ranks of his administration.

Special Counsel Robert Mueller has been investigating the Trump campaign for months.

DiGenova, a former USA attorney, has been a fierce defender of Trump on television and accused the Federal Bureau of Investigation of trying to "frame" the president for nonexistent crimes.

But they strongly urged caution on the president's part in the event that he faces off against some of the country's most skilled prosecutors. "If I were one of his lawyers, I would insist on a written interview and refuse the in-person interview at all costs".

Trump has denounced the investigation as a "witch hunt".
