Applicants would also be asked for five years of their telephone numbers, email addresses and travel history.

The changes will impact lakhs of applicants for immigrant and non-immigrant visas.

The Trump administration plans to require that USA visa applicants - including those filling for permanent residency (greens cards) - to provide their social media history, email addresses and phone numbers covering the previous five years.

The online form will provide a list of social media platforms - presumably the major ones - and "requires the applicant to provide any identifiers used by applicants for those platforms during the five years preceding the date of application".

House of Travel's Brent Thomas says 15 million foreigners apply for a visa each year, he's not aware of any other country that requires people to hand over social media details.

The State Dept.is proposing that foreign visitors and people planning to immigrate to the USA, provide links to various social media accounts in order to obtain visas.

LiAngelo Ball scores 72 points after declaring for 2018 NBA Draft
LiAngelo is expected to work out for several National Basketball Association teams once he returns to the United States. LiAngelo's older brother, Lonzo, was the No. 2 pick in the 2017 NBA Draft and is playing for the Los Angeles Lakers .

The State Department will propose these new requirements on Friday, Bloomberg reports.

The move follows the administration's emphasis on "extreme vetting" of would-be immigrants to the US.

The information would be used to identify and vet those seeking both immigrant and non-immigrant visas.

The Trump administration announced Thursday that it plans to require all US visa applicants to hand over up to five years worth of their social media information.

The idea is subject to approval by the Office of Management and Budget.

Now that request for social media handles may soon become much less optional and much greater in scope. A 60-day public comment period on the notices opened March 30. The State Department said the only exceptions to these rules would be those applying for diplomatic and official visas. It could also conceivably include social-media platforms based overseas, like QQ and Weibo in China and VK in Russian Federation.
