People are posting videos of themselves shoving and the inhaling an unwrapped condom into one nostril, and then pulling it out through their mouth. What could go wrong?

The latest social media craze entails teens making videos of themselves snorting condoms into their nostrils and pulling them out through their mouths.

The "Condom Challenge" is not only gross, it's risky. Forbes asks why it's risky to inhale "an object made of latex rubber and covered in lubricant and spermicide", and digs up stories to make a parent shudder.

There are actually cases of "accidental condom inhalation" in the medical literature.

The biggest health risk the challenge poses, experts say, is that it's a choking hazard. As Kens5 puts it, "There is a fine line between bravery and stupidity, but the line isn't so fine when people snort condoms".

All US Visa applicants could have to disclose social media information
The State Department said the only exceptions to these rules would be those applying for diplomatic and official visas. Applicants would also be asked for five years of their telephone numbers, email addresses and travel history.

This fad might be taking off on social media, however, it also reaps many health risks.

And though it is not exactly new, the challenge is spreading due to social media, which is why a class for parents in Texas aimed to educate adults to become more aware of what their kids are doing online. It resulted in appendicitis, a condition which is typically caused when a blockage in the appendix's lining leads to infection, causing the organ to swell, according to the Mayo Clinic.

He added: "Even if you manage to successfully pull the condom out through your mouth, inhaling a condom up your nose would be very uncomfortable and potentially quite painful".

The trend isn't new - the first example of the condom challenge is from 2012- but it appears to be experiencing a resurgence. The video has since been removed, but there are still dozens of others showing teenagers accepting the challenge.

In numerous videos, you can see pain on the faces of those who take part in the "condom snorting challenge".
