An intruder killed during a raid on a pensioner's home was wanted over a separate burglary involving another elderly victim, it has emerged.

(Picture: Facebook) Officers were called to reports of a burglary in progress after two men entered a house in South Park Crescent in Hither Green, south-east London.

Confronted by one of the suspected robbers, who was wielding a screwdriver, the pensioner was forced into his kitchen where police say a struggle took place in which the homeowner suffered bruising to his arms amongst injuries which are not life-threatening.

One man who lives in the neighborhood told the BBC that there had been a recent spate of burglaries in the area and his home had been broken into in recent months.

'It is possible that he fled the scene in a vehicle, possibly a white van, leaving the scene in the direction of Further Green Road.

On Thursday, Metropolitan Police detectives renewed their appeal for information over the death of an unnamed 37-year-old man.
