G.T. Nicklaus Jr, one of the fabled Golden Bear's 22 grandchildren, was given a swing from the last tee after lugging the six-time champion's bag, and fired his first ace to set off a wild celebration punctuated by a laughing bear hug from his granddad. "My wins, that's OK, but to have your grandson make a hole-in-one and watch him do it - man, that's fantastic".

"We talked about three days ago and I said, do you want to hit the ball on 9?"

The 82-year-old Player and 77-year-old Nicklaus each hit solid ceremonial tee shots to wild applause from the fans, who are filling the galleries for the most anticipated Masters in some time.

The crowd went nuts for GT, kind of like they have for Jack all these years.

Just when it appeared golfing legend Jack Nicklaus couldn't have any more special memories at the Masters than what he has already had, what happened Wednesday topped it all according to him.

"Tiger says, 'Phil, two to one.' And he never played him again the rest of the week", Nicklaus said with a laugh. "To see your grandson make a hole-in-one, wow".

After spinning his ball back into the cup from distance, Finau ran up the fairway with arms aloft and then turned to jog backwards when he rolled his left ankle and collapsed to the turf.

"I am sorry", tearful Steve Smith seeks forgiveness
Been thinking about my position for a while, despite telling media yesterday that I'm not resigning", he said. As a coach you feel for them as people, they are hurting and I feel for them and their families.

He fell to the ground and then popped it back into place.

Since the Par 3 event event started in 1960, no victor of it has ever gone on to triumph in the main event four days later.

Another "wow" moment came when Tony Finau, the 6-foot-4 bomber from Salt Lake City, jarred his tee shot on the 115-yard seventh. "We got to NY for all the morning shows, which was a really cool experience".

"What I did doesn't make any difference to me", he told ESPN. I mean, he made a move on it.

Garcia said he got the stains when he put his arm around one of the people working backstage.

The 82nd Masters Tournament is officially underway.

Six-time Masters champion Nicklaus was playing alongside fellow icons Gary Player and Tom Watson ahead of the tournament's tee-off on Thursday.
