Independent.ie understands that the prospect of a global Premier League television deal could be discussed in the near future, with one rights holder owner working in partnership with the league to broadcast the matches around the world.

These two three-year lots of 20 games a season failed to reach their reserve price in the auction in February, when BT and Sky spent £4.5billion between them on 160 games.

It has now been confirmed that the U.S. company has bought one of those packages, with BT taking the other.

Amazon has secured exclusive rights to stream matches from the top soccer league in the United Kingdom starting next year, a major boon for the tech giant's growing live sports streaming portfolio.

Football matches on Amazon will only be available to Amazon Prime customers, for which membership now costs £7.99 a month or £79 a year. "The Premier League is the most watched sports league in the world".

Sky Sports will show 112 fixtures, including prime-time Saturday night matches, while BT has 52 matches that will be shown at Saturday lunchtimes and midweek. Additionally, aside from live streaming, weekly highlights of all Premier League fixtures throughout the season will be available to be viewed by Prime subscribers as well.

The upshot for football fans is that there will now be three places to watch live Premier League football from the 2019/20 season, so how much is that going to cost you?

The Premier League offered 200 live matches a season to broadcasters, an increase from the 168 available in 2015.

The Premier League have also released details of the rights deals for the Republic of Ireland.

Now all the revenue from global deals is shared equally among the 20 clubs but the bigger clubs had been pushing for a greater share of the money, arguing they are the main attraction for foreign viewers.

BT TV customers can access all of the action on BT Sport from just £6 a month.

"This new agreement will continue that trend with a subtle change that further incentivises on-pitch achievement and maintains the Premier League's position as the most equitable in Europe in terms of sharing central revenues".

The specific matches are yet to be announced (unsurprisingly, given they're still a year away), but ten of them are expected to be streamed live over a bank holiday weekend, while the other ten will be of midweek games, reports The Guardian.
