Trump deserves more latitude and less attitude

Trump held a summit with Kim last Tuesday in Singapore, marking the first time a sitting USA president and North Korean leader met face to face.

Trump announced at the summit that the USA would be "stopping war games" on the Korean Peninsula amid ongoing talks with North Korea about denuclearization. But Bret Baier actually wanted to know a little bit about that, so he did the right thing by asking Donald Trump about this atrocities committed by Kim Jong Un, and this is what Trump had to say to that question.

Earlier this week, Trump was asked by Fox News' Bret Baier about the "killer" despot and how he can continue to say nice things about him despite all the bad things he has done.

Trump also defended his decision not to press Kim during the summit over Pyongyang's human rights abuses, arguing that he did so because preventing a nuclear war is a more pressing matter.

"I'm going to speak to people in North Korea, and I'm going to speak to my people who are over in North Korea", he said. In return, Mr. Trump agreed to stop the ongoing joint military exercises with political ally South Korea and establish diplomatic relations with North Korea. Trump talks directly to the camera and praises his talks with Kim as "open, honest, direct and very, very productive".

Until he shook hands with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un, that idea was the sort of fodder satirists would use to point out Trump's less than peaceful ways.

Since the summit, Trump has boasted about his meeting with Kim in unrealistic terms, claiming he'd solved the North Korean nuclear issue and "everybody can now feel much safer than the day I took office".

Korean official's United States visit reminiscent of 2000 diplomacy
Now his travel restrictions seem to have been further relaxed amid efforts to organise the Kim-Trump Summit in Singapore. At the same time, a "pre-advance" U.S. team was traveling to Singapore to meet North Koreans, the White House said.

Trump continued to admit that when "he speaks and his people sit up at attention". "You don't understand sarcasm", he told reporters.

The president afterward said he wanted to end the United States' joint military exercises with South Korea.

Human Rights Watch has dubbed North Korea one of the "most repressive authoritarian states in the world".

This is the beginning of the process toward the denuclearisation of North Korea.

The United States will reportedly hold high-level talks with North Korea soon to produce a list of the North's weapons of mass destruction and nuclear weapons subject to abandonment.

Trump on Sunday also re-posted one of his tweets from last week that contained multiple, previously unreported photographs from the G7 summit showing Trump smiling and seeming comfortable with other world leaders.
