Israel evacuates 800 Syria White Helmets to Jordan: Army

The Israeli army said it evacuated the White Helmets overnight at the request of the United States and European countries, in what it called "an exceptional humanitarian gesture". Both the US and the United Kingdom helped the multi-country effort to coordinate their escape from Syria.

The interceptors were launched on the Syrian frontier, where Damascus's Russian-backed forces have been routing rebels.

The White Helmets was established as a rescue service in rebel-held areas of the country, where its volunteers have often worked to save people trapped under the rubble of government bombardment. Furthermore, Israel is demanding that all long-range missiles be removed from Syria, and all factories that produce such missiles and/or precision-guided projectiles, be closed down, according to the official who spoke with reporters.

A military source said in a statement to Syria's state agency SANA that a military site in Masyaf in Hama countryside was targeted by an Israeli aerial aggression, causing only material damage.

More than 400 rescue workers and family members from Syria's southern provinces of Daraa and Quneitra were ferried into Israel on Sunday, then taken into Jordan for resettlement into Western countries.

"The information available to us suggests the Westerners evacuated a big group of those pseudo-aid workers to Jordan via the Israeli territory", the commentary said.

Its members say they are neutral, but Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's government and his Russian ally accuse the White Helmets of being tools of their worldwide donors.

Israel ferried 800 members and relatives of the White Helmets who were threatened by the advance of government forces in the provinces of Deraa and Quneitra.

The forward also enjoyed an impressive 2017/18 season in the Netherlands, having signed for PSV from Pachuca only last summer. According to Sky Sports News' sources, the Gunners are in talks with Sevilla over a possible move for Steven Nzonzi.

Israel said its air defences fired at rockets that approached territory under its control from Syria on Monday, where regime troops are taking control of areas bordering the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.

Netanyahu, in broadcast remarks, said he would tell the envoys, "Israel insists on the separation of forces agreement between us and Syria being honoured, as they were honoured for decades until the civil war in Syria broke out".

"We are glad that these ‎brave volunteers, who have saved thousands of lives, are now out of harm's way", the US State Department said of the White Helmets.

"The government gave the permission after Britain, Germany and Canada made a legally binding undertaking to resettle them within a specified period of time due to "a risk to their lives".

The Jordanian government said in a statement Sunday that 422 White Helmet members were moved from Syria to Jordan.

Moscow has proposed the establishment of working groups in Lebanon and Jordan, to where many refugees have fled, a Russian Defense Ministry official said on Friday.

Civil defense workers in that area turned down requests for an interview about the evacuations of their colleagues in the south calling the matter "too sensitive".
