Iranian interference in Basra protests to blunt Trump sanctions

President Donald Trump's explosive Twitter threat to Iran's leader comes as his administration is ratcheting up a pressure campaign on the Islamic republic that many suspect is aimed at regime change.

He says: "Iran has said very clearly that any war with them will be very costly, and this means American bases throughout the region could be a target". We've been around for millennia & seen fall of empires, incl our own, which lasted more than the life of some countries.

"If this happened, this would be considered as a gift for Iran as a response for the US sanctions imposed by the US President Donald Trump on Iranian oil exports".

The White House has blamed Iranian president Hassan Rouhani for inciting a war of words with U.S. leader Donald Trump, who warned that verbal threats could escalate into military conflict with America.

Trump's warning came after Rouhani earlier launched a rhetorical assault on the U.S. over Iranian oil exports, telling the USA president that "a war with Iran would be the mother of all wars".

Rouhani's apparent threat earlier this month to disrupt oil shipments from neighbouring countries came in reaction to looming United States sanctions and efforts by Washington to force all countries to stop buying Iranian oil.

Also on Sunday, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo launched a blistering attack on Iran in remarks at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in California.

Putin summit brings end to frosty US-Russia relations
He asked whether Trump "with the whole world watching" would "denounce" Russia's actions and warn Putin to never do it again. Trump leaned forward in his chair, his hands tented in front of him and frequently glanced over at the Russian president.

"Sadly, after pulling us out of the nuclear deal with Europe and Iran, there doesn't seem to be strategy for how to move forward to fight Iran's activities", she said.

The drive has intensified since Trump withdrew on May 8 from the 2015 nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers.

On Monday morning, the White House released this statement from national security adviser John Bolton:"I spoke to the president over the last several days, and President Trump told me that if Iran does anything at all to the negative, they will pay a price like few countries have ever paid before".

Yet North Korea has not yet taken affirmative steps toward ending its nuclear weapons programs, analysts said, and an aggressive approach to Iran may not lead to much in the absence of the nuclear agreement.

Citing harsh words the United States and North Korea had exchanged before the high-profile summit between Mr Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, Mr Leilaz said Mr Trump and Mr Kim got "closer" despite the warring words.

"And the United States under President Trump will not stay silent either".
