Repatriation of the United States soldiers' remains was one of the steps agreed by Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un in Singapore.

South Korea President Moon Jae-insaid Wednesday during a meeting with Harry Harris, the new USA ambassador to Seoul, that the transfer of the remains would boost momentum for talks on the North's nuclear program.

North Korea turned over the alleged remains of USA soldiers who were killed during the Korean War of the 1950s on Friday, the 65th anniversary of the armistice that ended the fighting, the White House said. "We are encouraged by North Koreas actions and the momentum for positive change".

China and Russian Federation have argued that North Korea should be rewarded with the prospect of eased sanctions for opening up dialogue with the United States and halting missile tests. -South Korea alliance with calls for USA troops to leave the Korean peninsula, he added.

At the very minimum, it will take meeting, talking, building trust and having a working relationship to convince North Korea - which was destroyed by U.S. warplanes during the Korean War - to give up its sole deterrent to prevent an American nuclear first strike.

The remains flown out Friday were the first handed over since a joint effort by us military experts and North Korean workers between 1996 and 2005. This means that the Korean War is still technically ongoing, 68 years later.

The repatriation comes amid doubts about North Korea's commitment to denuclearization, with little to no signs that the country is prepared to or engaged in dismantling its nuclear program.

The C-17 was accompanied by servicemembers from the UN Command and technical experts from the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency, the White House said in an earlier statement.

More than 7,700 USA troops who fought in the Korean War remain unaccounted for, with about 5,300 of those lost in what is now North Korea.

The White House said the move was the first step in achieving the complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula. Since 1990, North Korea has repatriated the remains of 340 U.S. troops.

Thousands of United States military personnel from the Korean war remain unaccounted for and a lot of them - about 5,300 - were lost in what is now North Korea.

In 1990, for example, North Korea agreed to turn over a set of five remains, along with clothing and identification tags.

The statement made clear that "the fundamental method to prevent such serious situations from taking place is for the North and the United States to scrap the armistice treaty as soon as possible and declare an end to the war".

"It is believed to have landed there an hour later", the official was quoted as saying.

Trump claimed last month that the North Koreans had "already sent back, or are in the process of sending back, the remains of our great heroes".
