Tour de France LIVE Updates as Geraint Thomas set to become third British winner

As the Tour de France champion-in-waiting, Geraint Thomas may only have celebrated his impending triumph with a "burger" and "a few beers" before Sunday's traditional victory parade around Paris.

Geraint Thomas has been confirmed as the victor of the Tour de France after the final stage in Paris.

The Welshman crossed the finish line at Paris' Champs-Elysees arm in arm with Chris Froome as he secured his Toure de France victory after three weeks of racing.

And just like that, 105th Tour came to an end, with Thomas walking off the podium as the third British Tour champion after Bradley Wiggins in 2012 and Froome in 2013, 2015, 2016 and past year.

"I really appreciate all the support - it's been a tough Tour at times but the support has outshone any negativity and that means a lot to all of us".

Before the Tour started, he told BBC Sport: "The team have said that with the way I've been riding they're confident to give me that role of a backup guy and to race at least until the first rest day [after stage nine]". I encouraged him to get out and get it out of his system, in a way.

The cyclist is expected to fly into the United Kingdom later on Monday - but it is not yet known when he will be back in Wales.

A former teammate of Thomas and Froome at Barloworld, when the Welshman was "maybe 10kg heavier", Impey has seen him develop from an Olympic gold medal-winning pursuit specialist into a consistently strong performer on the road.

When they reunited at Team Sky, they did so as friends and after Froome established himself as team leader, Thomas was happy to be one of his lieutenants.

Jeremy Hunt: Real risk of accidental no-deal Brexit
She also refused to say if Brexit would reduce immigration, answering: "Brexit is an opportunity". "We've had some constructive responses so far".

Norwegian rider Alexander Kristoff with UAE Team Emirates won the 21st leg from Houilles to Paris after a sprint finish, narrowly beating John Degenkolb and Arnaud Demare.

"The support, the Welsh and the British flags, it's unreal, it's the Tour de France".

American rider Lawson Craddock, who broke his shoulder in the opening stage and sits last overall, also broke down into tears upon reaching the finish.

Dumoulin may or may not be back for another tilt at the yellow jersey next year.

Dumoulin misplaced his rainbow time trial world champion jersey, and his team had to scramble to make a new kit in the morning.

"My wife Michelle is expecting a baby any day now, so I'm going to be home tomorrow and hopefully have some down time with the family".

In an interview, he said: "I can't believe it".

With his bonus seconds applied, Roglic moved into third place, 13 seconds ahead of Froome who slips to fourth, two minutes and 37 seconds behind Thomas. "When he was with me full-time, we lived in Manchester or in Italy".

This victory will come in his ninth Tour, one fewer than the record for most appearances before winning, held by 1980 victor Joop Zoetemelk of the Netherlands. The Dutchman has won six TTs overall at the three Grand Tours - the Tour, the Giro d'Italia and the Spanish Vuelta.
