North Korea: Spy images pick up 'new activity' at missile site

U.S. Intel Reportedly Says North Korea is Building New Missiles As Trump Continues to Boast of Progress

Meanwhile, a senior U.S. official on Monday said that U.S. spy satellites had detected renewed activity at the North Korean factory that produced the nation's first intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBM) capable of reaching the US.

The regime has continued to assemble intercontinental ballistic missiles at a plant near Pyongyang, The Washington Post reported Monday, citing people familiar with U.S. intelligence.

During last year's summit, Trump gave his starkest warning to the regime, that if North Korea continued with its threats and aggressive nuclear expansion, he would be faced with "no choice but to totally destroy North Korea".

"We see them going to work, just as before", a USA official told the newspaper.

North Korea only handed over one military dog tag when it provided 55 boxes of bones it said were remains of American soldiers killed in the Korean War, a USA defense official told the AP, per The Guardian.

The official did not rule out a one-on-one meeting between Pompeo and his North Korean counterpart on commitments made during the historic June 12 summit in Singapore between President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

North Korea's propaganda website, Uriminjokkiri, also criticized South Korea for its stance of keeping sanctions, saying "sanctions and conversation can not exist side by side".

She also noted that large "brightly coloured containers" also showed up in satellite imagery, saying that "containers similar to these have appeared during previous ICBM inspections by Mr Kim".

The Sanumdong factory had produced two of North Korea's ICBMs including the Hwasong-15, which is theoretically capable of reaching the US East Coast.

Trump To Give $12 Billion In Farm Aid To Offset Tariffs
The plan, however, has already magnified objections among some Republicans that the tariffs amount to taxes on American consumers. China said it would retaliate, leaving even more USA farm products at risk.

Last week, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo told the Senate Foreign Relations Committee that the North is continuing to produce fissile material and declined to say publicly whether it is continuing to produce submarine-launched ballistic missiles.

The State Department said the administration still believes Mr. Kim was honest in his commitment to move toward abandoning his country's nuclear weapons when he met in early June with Mr. Trump in Singapore.

Identifying the remains will be a challenge. "The U.S.is ready, willing, and able, but hopefully, this will not be necessary".

Joint recovery operations have been off the table amid growing tensions on the peninsula and North Korea's pursuit of a nuclear arsenal and ballistic missiles capable of reaching the US mainland.

The Kangson facility was first publicly identified in May in a Washington Post article that cited research by nuclear weapons expert David Albright.

Indonesian authorities have invited North Korean leader Kim Jong-un to attend the opening ceremony of the 2018 Asian Games, which will run from August 18 until September 2 in Jakarta and Palembang.

But the actual details of the process, including how and when the North's nuclear program is to be dismantled, have yet to be worked out.

Ahn Ik-san, the general leading the North Korean delegation at the military talks, said both sides agreed on "some issues", without elaborating. And as I said to them, my father, anytime the war came up and anyone used the word 'hero, ' my dad would say, the heroes were the ones that didn't come home.

North Korea is also reportedly still secretly operating the Kangson uranium-enrichment facility. -North Korea joint efforts resulted in the recovery of 229 containers of remains.
