It was written in the stars ... or the lyrics of "Pete Davidson."

Ariana Grande stepped up alongside The Roots to perform a touching cover of "Natural Woman" on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon Thursday night.

"We never exchanged numbers or anything, we weren't even friends for long". Grande responded, "Franklin?" And Franklin informed her, "There's only one Aretha". I'm not crushy. But I left and I like jokingly said to my tour manager, I was like, "I'm marrying him". "Like my friends used to make fun of me and all that stuff". "All I know is that I'm the luckiest guy in the world".

Variety reports that Ariana initially said no to the request from the show's producers as she was too emotional to sing, due to Aretha being one of her heroes.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump said on Saturday he condemns "all types of racism and acts of violence", appealing for unity. The preventative measures comes one year on from the harrowing violence that gripped the city one year ago.

In addition to her success on the charts, Ariana is certainly feeling the love at home after boyfriend Pete Davidson proposed with a $93,000 pear-shaped diamond in June, just weeks after the couple went public with their relationship.

"The day I met her, I was like, 'Hey, I'll marry you tomorrow, '" he explained.

In addition to sharing sweet intel about her fiancé, Grande also bopped along to a few of her favorite new songs on Sweetener, which has, of course, received Davidson's stamp of approval.
