Trump Was Slamming Republican US Prosecutors

President Trump continued his attacks on Attorney General Jeff Sessions on Labor Day, accusing him of endangering the party's hopes in the November elections. But last month Duncan Hunter, a California representative, was charged with misuse of campaign funds while Chris Collins of NY was indicted for insider trading - over a share tip alleged to have been made in 2017, when Trump was in power.

Trump, who did not address the specifics of the charges, just the political impact, has previously pressed Sessions to investigate his perceived enemies and has accused Sessions of failing to take control of the Justice Department. Both lawmakers pleaded not guilty: Mr. Hunter is still running for reelection, while Mr. Collins suspended his campaign.

Both men are key Trump supporters.

And what is even more remarkable is that while a handful of congressional Republicans voiced their disapproval with Trump's views - the usual suspects like Sens.

A decision by the Justice Department to hold off on prosecuting two Republican congressmen up for re-election in order to help them win would have been highly unethical and a blatantly politically motivated violation of the department's nonpartisan mission.

The tweet was just another attempt by the president into shaming his attorney general into resigning.

Former Trump campaign chair found guilty of fraud
Trump said in televised comments that the case did not implicate him in any crimes, but he felt badly for Manafort. The two bank fraud charges on which he was convicted each carry a potential prison term of up to 30 years.

"The United States is not some banana republic with a two-tiered system of justice - one for the majority party and one for the minority party", the Republican senator said.

Trump also called Sessions "mentally retarded" and described him as a "traitor" for recusing himself from the Russian Federation investigation, the book says, according to The Post.

Pence's comment runs completely counter to President Donald Trump's repeated criticisms of Sessions, telling him to shut down the Mueller probe and calling it a "rigged witch hunt".

In an interview with Fox News in August, Trump said that the reason he tapped Sessions to be his attorney general was Sessions' loyalty during the 2016 presidential campaign. "Really sick!" Trump tweeted.

The DOJ's move is the first sign of the administration taking concrete action to address alleged bias following President Trump's public accusations against tech companies last week.

"This tweet alone may be an impeachable offense", Toobin said Tuesday morning, calling it a "disgrace" that could have had harsh consequences if made by someone in a lower position.

"Will DJT never learn that an attorney general's job is not to play goalie for a president or his party, or any party for that matter?" tweeted conservative commentator Brit Hume, hitting the nail on the head.
