Novak Djokovic's tennis dynasty set to recommence with US Open triumph

Rafael Nadal will face Juan Martin del Potro in the US Open semi-final

Rafael Nadal will face Juan Martin del Potro in the US Open semi-final

It would be his third US Open title and would bring his total grand slam haul up to 14, a sweet achievement after suffering an elbow injury a year ago that forced him to take about six months off.

Juan Martin del Potro brought is own cheering section to the US Open, but in truth, the "gentle giant" from Argentina has the backing of the entire tennis world.

Everyone who follows tennis is familiar with the dramatic story of del Potro's career.

Novak Djokovic hailed Juan Martin del Potro as a "gentle giant" but he'll have no hesitation in attempting to cut his close friend down to size in Sunday's US Open final.

Gauff won the French Open girls' title and was trying to become the first American to win two Grand Slam girls' singles titles in the same year since Jennifer Capriati in 1989.

As his opponent limped increasingly heavily between points, Del Potro ruthlessly fired in winners, his backhand proving nearly as potent as his famously magnificent forehand.

Then he returned to the baseline to serve again and eventually finished out the set before stopping.

"All my career everybody say that because of my style, I will have a short career".

But six months later he was off the tour after undergoing surgery on his right wrist and, just when he was finally back to his best, he began to feel pain in his left wrist.

"I had some issues during the tournament", he said, per The Metro.

Kei Nishikori was run ragged by Novak Djokovic in their U.S. Open semifinal on Friday and conceded he had been overwhelmed by the Serb's aggression and energy.

Called a place to bury John McCain
Before his death , McCain decided Trump should not be invited to his funeral - where former Presidents Barack Obama and George W. Schumer said he would introduce a resolution to rename the Russell building after McCain "so that generations remember him".

Should he win on Sunday, he will equal Sampras' record of 14 Grand Slam titles.

"It was hard for me to keep playing". "I was suffering a lot".

Nishikori has enough about him to make this a competitive affair and we should see plenty of long rallies, but if Djokovic plays to his best then there will only be one victor.

But del Potro might have an ace up his sleeve - a group of 14 mates who have come to NY from his home town of Tandil, Argentina.

"What. A. Finish", the US Open tweeted after the Serbian won, adding that he cruised to the final in Flushing Meadows after defeating Nishikori 6-3, 6-4, 6-2.

Nadal would figure to have a tougher time in his fourth meeting with del Potro in the last of five Grand Slam tournaments.

Having also had to wear tape on his knee, in his third round match against Karen Khachanov, and trailing by two sets here, Rafa was in too much pain to continue and had no choice but to surrender his crown prematurely.

"These last two weeks have been good tennis and I think I'm just worn out", he said. But, you know, he's got two days now to recover, so he's going to be fresh. She missed a chance earlier this summer when she fell to Angelique Kerber in the Wimbledon final.

Djokovic went into cruise control in the third set, winning four consecutive games from 2-2 to win the match and book his spot in the final.

Djokovic will be in his 23rd championship match at the majors and eighth in NY. I said too my box immediately that I felt something on the knee.
