Kavanaugh wrote that he assumed the man who approached him, introduced himself, "and touched my arm" during a break at the Senate Judiciary Committee proceedings had been one of the many protesters in the hearing room.

As the Senate Judiciary Committee continues to consider Kavanaugh's nomination, Democratic senators and progressive groups are amplifying their concerns about the nominee. It was originally sent to Rep. Anna Eshoo, who represents California's 14th district, according to several media reports.

Eshoo passed the letter to Feinstein, but neither lawmaker will describe what's in it. Eshoo's office says it's considered part of an active and confidential constituent-service case. Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee have requested to view the document, but Feinstein has refused to give her colleagues access.

The Intercept reports that woman who is the subject of the letter is represented by Debra Katz, a prominent attorney in the #MeToo movement. The outlet said it reached out to her last week and that she declined to comment.

The woman has not come forward publicly, and her identity is unknown at this point. Kavanaugh, when given a chance to say something to Guttenberg during questioning at the hearing, told senators that he understands "the real-world effects of our decisions" and he has "not lived in a bubble".

White House spokeswoman Kerri Kupec did not outright deny the allegations against Kavanaugh but blasted Democrats for introducing them so late in the game.

On Thursday, Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley told reporters he had not seen the letter firsthand.

The questions, mostly from Democrats, deal with abortion, executive power and personal finances - including how much he spends on tickets to see Major League Baseball's Washington Nationals.

Democrats don't have the votes to block Kavanaugh's nomination, if Republicans hold unified, but are fighting it and decrying the process that Republicans used to compile his government records for review.

The White House also weighed in with a statement on Thursday.

Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) has just confirmed she has sent a secret letter believed to be about Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

"Not until the eve of his confirmation has Senator Feinstein or anyone raised the spectre of new "information" about him".

Booker said the documents about Kavanaugh's work "raise more serious and concerning questions" about his honesty during his testimony before the committee.
