Not for the first time United looked a little panicked by a conceded goal - they pushed forward but their shape and confidence was no longer there.

In his first programme notes for nearly four weeks, Mourinho penned a paean to United's followers who stayed until the end against Tottenham.

But Wolves had chances of their own to claim a first Old Trafford win in 38 years and, in the dying seconds, substitute Adama Traore burst through only to shoot selfishly over the goal. We are going to play better than we did, so that's what we can do.

"Not a good performance, not a good result but a fair result", said Mourinho. The boys had played well and were unfortunate. I think Wolves played how I like to play which is like a World Cup final.

"I think this is more the influence of the moment". On another day, and with better temperament at the back, it may have been a different result.

The Englishman has enjoyed a mixed start as a boss, having been sent off against Preston and also seeing his team get thrashed by Leeds. That is the attitude I like my teams to have in every match. They deserved their point - we deserve the punishment of only getting one.

"This is something you learn as a kid in the academy".

The United manager saw a run of three consecutive wins, all of them away from Old Trafford, come to an end in lethargic fashion.

Jimmy Butler Requests Trade from T-Wolves
The Wolves will hold their annual media day on Monday, and that should be a lot of fun for everybody. Before Butler, the Timberwolves hadn't sniffed the postseason since Kevin Garnett was in his prime.

Away wins over Burnley and Watford, as well as the midweek Champions League victory at Young Boys Bern, had eased the sense of frustration at the club following their poor start to the campaign.

"And I could say [we were] exhausted, Champions League, bad pitch [at Young Boys], the body suffered a different impact than a match in natural grass, not coming home after the match".

"That's a basic law of football, you have to play with the maximum of your potential, with the maximum of your focus".

But it was the Frenchman who was at fault for Wolves' equaliser after half-time when he was caught in possession in midfield in the build-up to Joao Moutinho's strike.

"I am optimistic, but a hard season, yes", Mourinho said. "Knowing that when you have the ball you have to produce chances and we did that".

But soon after, while on global break, Pogba said: "I'm playing at United at the moment, but who knows what will happen in the next few months".
