The rally, organized by Women's March Chicago, was created to spotlight the power and determination of women voters ahead of the crucial November 6 midterm elections, which will determine control of the US Congress.

Liberal activist groups opposed to more Republican judicial confirmations were furious with the prospect of another deal that would place more judges on the bench who have been handpicked by President Donald Trump. Fox News says the DC Circuit did have the option of "dismissing them out of hand" if it so chose. Some were encouraged to head to early voting locations nearby to cast ballots.

Among Republicans, it has been a regular talking point, practically a piece of conventional wisdom, that confirming Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court before the midterm elections would help motivate their voters to go to the polls. A New York Times Upshot poll this week found Blackburn ahead by 14 points.

"We need to rally the young millennials and the people coming up, turning 18 (years old)".

According to the results of the Politico/Morning Consult poll, which was conducted entirely after Kavanaugh's tempestuous hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee, 46 percent of voters believe that the Senate "made the wrong decision" by confirming Kavanaugh while only 40 percent said that the Senate was correct in doing so.

Slightly more registered voters say the Kavanaugh confirmation proceedings make them more likely to support Democrats for Congress than Republicans in the upcoming midterm elections, though a 39 percent plurality say it doesn't make a difference.

A new survey reveals that Democrats may actually be more motivated to vote because of Kavanaugh than Republicans.

"That Democrat play against Kavanaugh was really to try to get the Republicans to pull his nomination, or let it fail based on lack of Republican votes, which would have suppressed [GOP voter] turn out", McLaughlin told "The Cats Roundtable" on 970 AM-N.Y.

"Women are angry. And we're starting to feel comfortable being angry".

This is the third Women's March through Chicago.

Republicans now hold the White House and both chambers of Congress, but many in the party fear anti-Trump voters will overwhelm the president's supporters in the elections, pushing the House - at least - over to the Democrats.

The protests came as early voting was under way in IL and more than a dozen other states with more to follow.

The group also chided Democrats for not delaying the votes, saying, "Allowing these confirmations to be rushed through as senators head out of town does a disservice to our democracy and the rule of law".

Protests in January shut down streets in dozens of American cities.
