‘He’s the president’: On the campaign trail, Ted Cruz refuses to say whether Trump is friend or foe

President Trump departed for Texas Monday afternoon to hit the campaign trail with GOP Senator Ted Cruz; saying he has a "beautiful" relationship with the Republican legislator and calling his liberal challenger "highly overrated".

Trump's crowd was so enthused that there were also celebrations and a miniature parade long before the rally even started. "Restore the rule of corrupt, power-hungry globalists", he said. He declared Democrats would be a "big risk to the American family", and went after some of his favorite targets, including Democratic House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, California Rep. Maxine Waters, New Jersey Sen.

After telling the crowd that a globalist is someone who "wants the globe to do well" at the expense of the country, Trump made it clear he's not one of those. It sort of became old-fashioned.

Mr. Trump added that Mr. Cruz "did a lovely job in staring down an angry left wing mob in our recent Supreme Court battle - victory - whatever you want to call it".

"I'll tell you what: Nobody has helped me more, with your tax cuts, with your regulation, with all of the things that we're doing, including military and our vets, than Senator Ted Cruz", Trump told the 18,000 assembled faithful. "You know we had our little difficulties, but actually, if you remember, in the beginning, it was a love fest". I am a nationalist.

Trump again claimed, without evidence, that the Democrats are behind the caravan.

Campaigning for Republican Sen. And maybe it's a dog whistle to races and such. "He's handsome Ted." Trump also called the senator "Texas Ted".

President Donald Trump acknowledges the crowd during a campaign rally on October 22, 2018, in Houston. In March, the president prompted a tide of criticism when he referred to his outgoing top economic adviser, Gary Cohn, as a "globalist".

"Never underestimate the power of anti-Semitism in this", Shane Burley, author of Fascism Today, told Al Jazeera.

"I'm going to make a prediction to every person here: In 2020, Donald Trump will be overwhelmingly re-elected as president of the United States", he said. Cruz have moved on from 2016 and now work very well together.

Cruz, on the other hand, has embraced the president, inviting Trump to headline the Monday rally where tens of thousands gathered. After declining to endorse Trump during the Republican National Convention, he changed course in September 2016 and begrudgingly offered his support.
